Acceptance of any contribution, gift or donation is at the discretion of the Asociación Salvamento Marítimo Humanitario (hereinafter SMH). SMH will not accept any gift unless it can be used or spent consistently for the purpose or in the SMH missions.
No irrevocable donation will be accepted, whether of a direct nature or for lifetime earnings, if in any reasonable circumstance the donation would jeopardize the financial security of the donor.
SMH will refrain from providing tax advice or other gift treatment and will encourage donors to seek guidance from their own professional advisers to assist them in the process of making their donation.
SMH will accept donations of cash or publicly traded securities. Gifts of in-kind services will be accepted at SMH's discretion.
Certain other gifts, real property, personal property, gifts in kind, non-liquid securities and contributions whose sources are not transparent or whose use is restricted in any way, must be reviewed prior to acceptance due to any special obligations or responsibilities they may pose to SMH.
SMH will provide recognition to donors who meet the tax requirements for goods received by the charity as a gift. However, with the exception of cash gifts and publicly traded securities, no value will be attributed to any receipt or other form of justification for a gift received by SMH.
SMH will respect the intention of the donor in relation to gifts for restricted purposes and those related to the desire to remain anonymous. Regarding anonymous donations, SMH will restrict donor information to only those staff members who need it.
SMH will not compensate, whether through commissions, search fees or other means, any third party for directing a gift or donor to SMH.
